This weekend, my mom and I went downtown Vancouver for some shopping. At first, we picked the usual spots – Pacific Centre and Robson Street. But as we headed out of Pacific Centre to make our way to Robson, we passed Gastown and figured we would head that way instead, since neither of us had been there in a long time!
It was a good decision. Gastown is a historic site in Vancouver and the oldest neighborhood of Vancouver- it was established in 1876! Andddd….. Not surprisingly, it was named 4th most stylish neighborhood in the world in 2012.
It is definitively one of the most unique, trendy neighborhoods I have been to.
We first walked the streets and stopped in every unique fashion boutique that caught our eye. There is an abundance of vintage clothing stores, and trendy interior design shops. We then stopped at Chill Winston, a trendy bar with an amazing patio and interesting drinks, for a drink before our big dinner at L’Abattoir – an upscale french restaurant.
And O.M.G. If you are ever looking for someplace special to go to, I highly, highly,HIGHLY recommend L’Abattoir. It was phenomenal.
The atmosphere and decor is fab. The service is fab. The drinks are fab. The food is even more fab. Seriously, this place is #1 on my list now. It is a bit more pricey, but for the food you get and the service, it’s well worth it to splurge for a special occasion.
Firstly, they bring each table the freshest, ‘just-baked-melt-in-your-mouth’ bread, it’s soo tasty. Then we started with the baked oysters which comes with a whipped garlic butter! AHHH… the best I have ever tasted. For dinner, I had the Steak Diane, one piece of steak came with garlic butter and another piece with peppercorn. It was so good, you guys!! I have been raving about this place to everyone ever since. It’s one of the best places in Vancouver.
